Melrose is a Thai- and Indonesian-inspired rooftop restaurant and bar from the Venzin Group, which opened in May 2021, mere months after the arrival of the group’s Swiss-inspired patisserie Darvella. Melrose sits above Darvella on Oxford Street in Bulimba, and is iinspired and informed by Melrose owner’s Giorgina Venzin and Chris Hollingsworth’s frequent food-centric holidays to Bali and Thailand. The restaurant draws upon some rich culinary history for its menu offering, which is overseen by Arté Assavakavinvong, who recently worked as the head chef at lauded Melbourne restaurant Longrain. Arté’s menu utilises local ingredients to deliver a culinary experience shaped by modern-Asian twists – think grilled banana-wrapped coral trout, grilled turmeric spatchcock, hibachi-grilled skewers, rendang curries and more. Bar snacks and happy hour specials are also available from 3:00–5:00 pm from Wednesday to Sunday. The venue is looking to to rejuvenate Oxford Street’s nightlife with a colourful atmosphere courtesy of some chic Balinese-inspired decor, as well as a beverage menu featuring spritzes, signature cocktails and a 70-strong wine list.
