Massimo Restaurant & Bar is the Italian-inspired sibling of Eagle Street mainstay George’s Paragon. Owned and operated by Michael Tassis, Massimo takes a streamlined approach to Italian cuisine, serving up uncomplicated dishes that use fresh produce and genuine flavours to do the talking. Although its menu is stripped back, Massimo Restaurant & Bar remains keenly focused on the small details, from the the tiered platters used to serve up its desserts and charcuterie, to intricate light fixtures that subtly enhance the space. Stand-out dishes include baby squid stuffed with Italian sausage and served with squid-ink tagliolini, cured octopus carpaccio, slow-cooked veal shin osso bucco with charred gnocchi, Roman-style lamb shoulder, the T-bone all Florentine and the housemade desserts. The bar also has a snack-worthy list of bites, including cold meats, char-grilled prawns and calamari. If all of that sounds too meaty, Massimo also has a separate menu for vegetarian and vegan diners. The bar is loaded with plenty of quaffing material. Massimo’s wine list is split evenly between Italian wines and drops from Australia and New Zealand. Italian beer is available on tap and in bottles, while Massimo’s house pale ale and lager have been brewed in conjunction with Melbourne Brewing. Rounding out the sip selection is a range of top-shelf spirits, cocktails and an extensive list of Italian grappa. Massimo Restaurant & Bar offers fixed-price lunches and multi-course dining experiences, giving patrons a top-notch level of versatility.
