Marchetti

Taking inspiration from the standing espresso bars of Milan and Naples, where Italians shot their ristrettos and fuel up on breakfast pastries with minimal fuss, this European micro-cafe and wine bar is right at home in the elegant 1920s icon Tattersall’s Arcade. The scent of butter and Allpress Coffee fills the arcade each morning, with sfogliatelle direct from Naples and croissants from Brittany sating city workers. The venue will unfurl in stages, with current offerings spanning pastries, panini and coffee, a lunch menu and wine list arriving soon and an evening aperitivo operation due by summer. The menu proffers classic Italian dishes along the lines of eggplant parmigiana, arancini and veal meatballs. A short, well-curated wine list will soon boast rare, boutique Italian and Greek drops you’ve probably never heard of, while sour Amarena cherries will feature in the house version of the Bellini. If you’re dropping in at tea time, sample freshly baked biscotti and team it with a cup of Mörk hot chocolate or chai.
