Mamak

Fans of Malaysian-inspired restaurant concept Mamak were pleased as punch when the award-winning eatery opened its first Brisbane restaurant in 2022. The brand began life as a humble market stall before opening its first bricks-and-mortar location in Sydney’s Chinatown in 2007, going on to become a cult favourite amongst Sydney diners, with lines of patrons (all hungry for a taste of Mamak’s street-food-inspired fare) commonly seen snaking its way from the flagship locale’s entrance. After receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from Brisbane eaters following an appearance at the Night Noodle Markets a few years back, the Mamak team (helmed by friends Alan, Clement and Julian) has had Brisbane high on its list of expansion sites. After an intensive location-scouting process, the crew secured a site near the intersection of Charlotte Street and Albert Street at the base of Festival Towers for the expansion. Faculty Design and Lowry Group were engaged to design and construct the 80-seater eatery, which draws aesthetic inspiration from the brand’s market-style influences. Brisbane locals can indulge in Mamak’s iconic menu, which is headlined by crowd favourites such as its roti canai, spicy satay chicken skewers and cups of frothy teh tarik (Malaysian sweetened tea).
