The Talisman Group followed a big 2022 (which saw the openings of Casa Chow, South City Wine and Purple Palm) with more action in 2023, starting with the opening of Los Felix, an old-school, hole-in-the-wall taqueria inspired by the Southern California-style of Mexican food. The eatery replaced the group’s coffee, smoothie and breakfast kiosk Felix Green overlooking The Lawn, with the team giving the nook a cosmetic redo by revamping the facade and adding new furniture to the open-air grass space. Talisman Group executive chef Gabriele di Landri has turned his talents towards Los Felix’s tight menu of tacos elevated with modern twists, including six options ranging from carne asada and barbacoa and phenomenal Baja-style fish tacos. Tacos aren’t all that’s available here, either – guacamole with chips (an essential starter), tuna aguachile tostadas, loaded fries and elotes (grilled Mexican-style street corn) also feature, as do crunchy churros lightly dusted in sugar, for a sweet finish. These beauties are be served simply on galvanised metal trays with greaseproof paper (or packaged for takeaway, if desired) – the kind of informal delivery that matches perfectly with the street-food staple. As for drinks, Los Felix also stocks an array of tequila, which will filter into a selection of regular and slushie margaritas.
