King Arthur

King Arthur is the latest venture from the trio behind South Brisbane’s Merriweather cafe – Josh Russell, Mairi Mackinnon and Jarrod Huey. As you stroll down Arthur from James Street, you may be lured in by the scent of flaky pastries and fresh-baked bread on the windowsill, delivered straight from Sprout Artisan Bakery each day. Similar to Merriweather, King Arthur’s menu focuses on local and sustainable produce, taking a slightly healthier angle than its South Brisbane sibling. Andrew Tolley has stepped into the role of head chef, creating a menu of creative breakfast and lunch options. Breakfast is served until 12:00 pm each day, and includes the likes of griddled flatbread with chickpeas, beans and fried duck egg; organic maple granola with pomegranate, sour raspberries and Barambah Organics labna; and local slow-cooked goat with tomato and oregano on sourdough. From 11:00 am you can choose from lunch eats such as tarragon gnocchi with preserved lemon, Jerusalem artichoke and sorrel, or roasted duck with fig, blue cheese and homemade flatbread. In the counter you’ll find daily sandwiches and salads to takeaway, as well as a batch of fresh cakes baked each day.
