Sitting at the centre of UPSTAIRS at Toombul’s brand-new dining precinct is Il Gancio – a chic and moody Italian eatery. Dom Barakat and Ibrahim ‘Bob’ Haddad – the brains behind Il Verde in Bowen Hills and Il Vento in Mooloolaba – have added Il Gancio to their growing portfolio, continuing their trend of whipping up pitch-perfect Italian eats. This industrial-chic eatery boasts a sturdy open-plan design that encompasses concrete bench tops, booth seating (with brown and blue-leather banquettes) a copper pizza oven and two bars (one of which will be used for private cooking classes come December). The menu segues through mouth-watering Italian classics such as four-cheese croquettes and beetroot and asparagus risotto to beef scaloppine with mushroom and marsala sauce, a ten-strong pizza selection and the coveted cheese-wheel pasta. A comprehensive drinks list is also available, guests can sip chardonnay from the Margaret River or hearty Chianti, or indulge in one of the many cocktails like a classic bellini or Aperol spritz.
