Helsby’s Ale House

Halfway through 2017, Kangaroo Point’s Pineapple Hotel gave its public bar a fresh new look and a new identity. Named after long-time Pineapple Hotel resident Jo Helsby, Helsby’s Ale House is a haven for beer-loving patrons. Before opening for business, the team at the Pineapple Hotel refurbished the Helsby’s space – bringing the venue alive once more by stripping back its original pressed metal ceiling, exposed brickwork and leadlight windows. A pub with no beer is no pub at all, thankfully Helsby’s Ale House makes good on its name by amply supplying all manner of frothy beverages off tap. A large variety of beers are showcased across the bar’s 32 taps, with the beer list changing frequently. One mainstay of the rotation is the Helsby’s House Lager, which is reportedly a mighty fine sessionable drop. Beer-friendly snacks are available, including yakitori skewers, barbecue corn, pulled-pork tacos and charcuterie. Once the sun sets, the kitchen starts pumping out wood-fired pizzas and burgers to satiate larger appetites
