Helios Brewing Company in Yeerongpilly is setting a new standard in sustainable brewing, going to great lengths to implement environmentally friendly apparatus and brewing methods to minimise its carbon footprint. Relying heavily on solar power for many of its operations, Helios (named after the Greek god of the sun) has managed to cut down its power usage by a significant amount. Other sustainable initiatives implemented include the re-use of water where possible, employing a special condenser to trap vapour emissions and donating the grain and hop trub to farmers for reuse. Punters can hit up the ground-level bar and sample the pantheon of six core beers inspired by key figures of Greek mythology, including the Midas Golden Ale, Zeus’ Thunderbolt Douple IPA, the Athena Scottish Ale, the Poseidon Pale Ale and the Hades Bitter Chocolate Stout, while food trucks are on hand from Thursday to Saturday in the evenings to dish out a range of eats.
