You may know him for his captaincy skills rather than his commercial success, but former Wallabies halfback George Gregan and his wife Erica have been cementing themselves as restaurateurs for the past decade, launching more than 17 venues in laneways and office buildings around Sydney and Canberra. Now the couple has shifted its attention north of the border, unveiling The George Bar and Bistro and GG Espresso in Brisbane City. Suspended on the mezzanine overhead, GG Espresso looks to carry on its building’s tradition of providing a comfortable meeting a place for inner-city suits. Cosy seating lends itself to a leisurely office escape in the cafe space, where a full-bodied Allpress Carmelo coffee and a selection of sweets are offered.
