Fromage [The Cow]

It’s no secret that here at The Weekend Edition, we really love our cheese. We send you on cheese roadtrips. We give you cheese recipes. We interview cheesemakers. So you can imagine our excitement when Brisbane got its first licensed fromagerie. Fromage [The Cow] opened on Milton’s Park Road in May 2016, and is a cheese lover’s dream come true. The space includes a full-service cheese-oriented restaurant (yep, all menu items are based around glorious cheese), a wine bar with matched cheese flights, a takeaway coffee window serving drool-worthy toasties (from three cheese and ham to truffled mushroom and gruyere) and – the pièce de résistance – a glass-walled walk-in cheese room in the centre of the restaurant, housing more than 80 types of cheese to taste and take home. If you choose to dine in, be prepared for some hard choices. Lunch and dinner offers up plenty cheesy goodness with creative dishes such as French onion soup in a cobb loaf with quail eggs and cheese gratin, twice-baked cheese soufflé with black garlic bread, grilled pork cutlets with fried brie and white bean and pancetta cassoulet, fondue and slow-cooked lamb shoulder grazing platters. The Fromage Signature Cheese platter allows diners to choose from a selection of 15 cheeses to enjoy with quince, preserves, fruit, bread and grissini.
