For a long time Esquire has been the go-to destination for fine dining on Eagle Street, inadvertently overshadowing its smaller sibling esq. Compared to Esquire’s degustation-focused menu, esq. offers a more stripped-back a la carte menu for lunch and dinner. The regularly changing menu aims to showcase simple and casual fare centred on hero ingredients that are locally sourced. Although the menu is rarely static, dishes available include the likes of Chinese-style eggs with mint and basil coriander, highly marbled beef tartare, potato gnocchi with goats gouda and pan-roasted flathead hollandaise pickles. The food component is ably backed up with a substantial bar offering, with enough drops and tipples to float you through your next business lunch or intimate dinner.
