District 1

Sitting pretty just a stone’s throw away from both the Brunswick Street and Chinatown Malls is District 1, a handy spot to grab some authentic Vietnamese fare. Operated by Phillip Pham, District 1 draws heavily from Phillip’s Vietnamese roots and passion for delicious food. As a former butcher, Phillip wanted to bring the best cuts and freshest produce to Fortitude Valley to show Brisbane diners what traditional Vietnamese street food should be. The menu is divided into snacks, salads, rice vermicelli noodles, banh mi and pho. Crispy pork dumplings, green papaya salad with tiger prawns or slow-roasted pork belly banh mi are just a fraction of the delicious options available. Phillip does not skimp on the ingredients, doing away with the cold cuts in favour of pork belly in the baguettes and stock made from real beef bones for the pho. All produce is sourced from Chinatown grocers and even as far as the Rocklea Markets, while the banh mi bread is baked on site. District 1 also serves sweet treats including caramel coconut flan and tasty beverages such as frozen coconut slushies, lemon soda and iced Vietnamese coffee.
