New cafe and grocer Primal Pantry opens in Teneriffe

New palaeolithic (paleo) cafe Primal Pantry opens in Teneriffe today, providing Brisbane dwellers with a taste of the diet that is becoming increasingly popular.

Owner Mark Rockley adopted the paleo lifestyle many years ago and it resonated with him so much that he was inspired to open Primal Pantry, where he could share his knowledge learnt over the years. At the heart of the locale is a large tree installation that visitors can pluck leaves from. Each leaf is inscribed with recipe ideas and different tips for following a paleo lifestyle. All of the produce for the recipes is available from the grocer, and you can sample paleo meals at the cafe.

The cafe is open for breakfast and lunch, providing takeaway meals as well as those that can be savoured in-house. Primal Pantry’s head chef Tracy Hirst decided to embrace a paleo diet 18 months ago, and the opening of the cafe provided the next logical step in her career. All meals are made using grass-fed, gluten-free and organic ingredients, with breakfast options including cinnamon pancakes with grilled fig, pistachio crumb and maple, and lunch offering clear water scallops wrapped in prosciutto with caponata salsa and cauliflower puree. Once the cafe side of things is up and running, take-home dinner options will also be available.

Organic and single-origin coffee beans from Fonzie Abbott Espresso are put through the coffee machine and, true to paleo style, coffee can be made on coconut and almond milk (regular milk is also available, and is the only exception to the paleo offerings).
