Miel Container opens in Brisbane City

City workers trampling the footpath along Albert Street may have noticed a bright-red beacon slowly coming to life in recent weeks – and those with curious noses may have ventured close enough this week to inhale the aroma of gourmet burgers and beer-battered fries.

The concept may have been circling through chef-owner Johnny Na’s mind for three years, and the site may have taken a full six months to complete, but new burger joint Miel Container was certainly worth the wait. Shining bright on the corner of Albert and Mary Streets in Brisbane City, the glossy, red shipping container offers a summery setting for lunch or post-work burgers and beers. Those with a penchant for fluffy bread, grass-fed beef, generous helpings of veggies and gourmet cheese will be in for a treat when they merge it all together to create their own tailor-made tower of goodness.

Fragrant, fruity ciabatta and buttery brioche buns are baked fresh every morning by French baker Sébastien Pisasale, formerly of Chouquette Boulangerie Patisserie in New Farm. Diners can then layer on their choice of beef or veggie pattie, rib fillet, grilled chicken breast or hand-crumbed fish fillet, and top it with fresh vegetables, cheeses like grana padano or triple-cream brie, and gourmet sauces such as red capsicum relish or tomato chilli jam.

Those less skilled in decision making can opt for one of Miel Container’s classic burgers, like the miso-smoked pork belly or Korean barbecue bulgogi. The venue will also start serving wine and Australian and Japanese beers from next week. Regulars are rewarded with a spin of the cafe’s giant roulette wheel, which may just land on a free burger or meal for the lucky punter.
