The Corbett Collective (Corbett & Claude, Mr Claude, Tetto Rooftop bar) opened a new Comuna Cantina location in Brisbane City in 2020, located at the base of The Annex on the corner of Creek Street and Elizabeth Street. The venue is a larger format interpretation of the concept, which first opened on Albert Lane in 2016. The venue now occupies a sizeable 700-sqm of street-front space that extends into a colourful interior inspired by Mexican, Brazilian and Spanish design. Comuna Cantina boasts eight unique spaces to inhabit, including the shaded alfresco area, several small laneway strips and the interior, which boasts a 15-metre long Corian bar that illuminates from within. As usual, the fare runs the gamut of South American flavours, from starters like crispy seasoned calamari, fried-chicken strips with chipotle dipping sauce and chargrilled corn to nine kinds of tacos (including a new lamb ragu option), cheesy quesadillas and filling arepas. The bar also concocts a collection of Instagram-worthy cocktails that look almost too good to drink, served alongside a large selection of tequilas, mezcals, wines and beers.
