Commercial Road Public Bar

Newstead locals were the recipients of a flashy neighbourhood bar in September 2020 when Commercial Road Public Bar officially arrived after a few delays. The brainchild of owner-operator (and member of the Lucky Duck Club crew) Kyle Weir, Commercial Road Public Bar is a relaxed and informal wine bar focusing on accessibility and local appeal. The 11-year hospitality veteran is putting customer satisfaction first, with a menu of eats and drinks that offers something for most tastes. Guests can expect a big wine focus, including a strong representation of natural, organic and biodynamic drops, as well as cocktails (including a low-ABV range) and craft beers. Jackson Mackie (formerly of Little Truffle in Mermaid Beach) is responsible for executing CRPB’s menu, which draws influences from 1990’s Italian bar food and focuses on light snacks and pizzas. As for Commercial Road Public Bar’s decor, Kyle is taking a uniquely abstract approach – employing textures and materials commonly unseen in a hospitality setting, applied in subtle ways. The 200-sqm space (located behind No. 68 Cafe – entry via Wyandra Street) boasts space for roughly 65 patrons (currently limited to 50 while dining restrictions last), and is shaping up to be a go-to haunt for discerning drinkers looking for a top-notch experience outside of The City and The Valley.
