Brookfield General Store

Established in 1871, it’s fair to say that the Brookfield General Store has seen its fair share of goings-on within its heritage-listed walls. What was once a quaint teacher’s residence is now a bustling cafe and store, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to locals and tourists alike. Affectionately known as ‘The Shed’, the cafe is open from 6:00 am daily, rousing patrons from their sleepy states with its signature blend of coffee, which pairs perfectly with its freshly baked muffins, fruit-riddled toast and traditional bacon and eggs. For diners looking to nosh on something more rustic, there’s lemon-infused avocado on sourdough with bush dukkah, house-made pesto with gooey eggs and blistered tomatoes on toast, and bubble and squeak with pulled pork and chilli relish. When the clock ticks over to 12:00 pm, the kitchen shifts into lunch mode, offering up salads, gourmet sandwiches, and towering burgers that will satisfy the meanest of hungers. But if there’s one thing you can’t go past, it’s the wood-fired pizza and ribs that the café is renowned for. Don’t leave without wandering through the general store, where you can pick yourself up a range of fresh produce and condiments including house-made ‘Bone Sucking BBQ Sauce’, beef jerky, 100% pure local bush honey, and chilli and herb-infused oils.
