Adelaide-born Ryan Blunt has spent the past few years immersing himself in the coffee industry. After a some time slinging brews on the Sunshine Coast and a stint helping run nodo’s bustling eateries, Ryan eventually accumulated enough knowledge to strike out on his own. Blunty’s in Kangaroo Point is a stylishly minimal specialty coffee cafe that operates on the mantra that less is more. This extends from the fit-out (crafted by Woodsters), which emphasises natural light and neutral tones, to the menu. Blunty’s food service starts early, with a breakfast list offering up simple-yet-satisfying eats such as avocado served on sourdough with goat chevre and dukkha, breakfast burgers with bacon, fried egg, American cheddar and onion marmalade, and a mushroom toastie loaded with truffle mushrooms and gruyere. Blunty’s also offers a selection of deli-style sandwiches at lunch (all served with crispy bacon potato salad) for those seeking a satisfying hit – we’re talking rare roast beef, American cheddar and dill pickles on rye sourdough, mortadella, fried egg, gruyere and jalapeno, and pulled chicken, fresh herbs, yellow and red tomato, and horseradish cream. As for coffee, Ryan has selected Five Senses as Blunty’s sole provider of caffeine. The cafe serves espresso-based and batch brews, specialising in single origins. Non-coffee drinkers can also sip on Karma Cola Co. organic drinks, tea from Love Tea, hot chocolates and turmeric lattes.
