Before + After – Opening Soon


Brisbane City’s bar scene continues to grow in 2022, with Before + After slated to open down an alleyway of George Street in September. The brainchild of hospitality veteran George Curtis, Before + After is a bar designed to cater to pre-dinner aperitifs and post-dinner digestifs. Here there’s a distinct focus on amaro, with the hero herbal liqueur showcased across a range of cocktails and via a broad array of beautiful bottles in the back bar. Pop in early for a signature negroni, or saunter in late to peek at Before + After’s 15 vintage amaros (including a 1970s Fernet Branca and a 1940s Zucca Rabarbaro) plus its 45-strong mix featuring classic Italian expressions and drops from America, France and Australia. Amaro isn’t all that’s available – guests will also be able to select from 20 gins, 20 whiskies, a clutch of interesting wines and tins from local craft breweries. George has recruited the help of good mate Evan Nagel of Alba Bar & Deli to assist with the creation of Before + After’s own menu of bar food, which will reportedly feature amaro-spiked appetisers like shrimp rolls with Fernet Branca mayo, anchovies on toast with citrus amaro oil and an amaro float made using Maleny Food Co. gelato, fish crudo with vermouth gel, and charcuterie.
