Before + After


Brisbane City’s bar scene continued to grow in 2022, with Before + After opening down an alleyway of George Street in late August. The brainchild of hospitality veteran George Curtis, Before + After is a bar designed to cater to pre-dinner aperitifs and post-dinner digestifs. Here there’s a distinct focus on amaro, with the hero herbal liqueur showcased across a range of cocktails and via a broad array of beautiful bottles in the back bar. Pop in early for a signature negroni, or saunter in late to peek at Before + After’s 15 vintage amaros (including a 1970s Fernet Branca and a 1940s Zucca Rabarbaro) plus its 45-strong mix featuring classic Italian expressions and drops from America, France and Australia. Amaro isn’t all that’s available – guests are also be able to select from a range of gins and whiskies, a clutch of interesting wines and tins from local craft breweries. Before + After’s own menu of bar food features amaro-spiked appetisers like shrimp rolls with Fernet Branca mayo, an amaro float made using Maleny Food Co. gelato, fish crudo with vermouth gel, and charcuterie.
