Barko & Co

Sustainability and ethically minded operation is something that is quickly becoming more pertinent for numerous industries, but none more so than the food industry. From proper waste management to support for local enterprise, socially conscious hospitality is more than a trend – it’s becoming a necessity for operators and consumers alike. A cafe on Macquarie Street in Teneriffe is championing the cause with a health-conscious offering made following a strict sustainable ethos. Barko & Co is the brainchild of Raex Murillo and his family, a group of savvy socially aware foodies that have been dabbling in the environmentally sustainable realm for some time (Raex’s sister Vanessa is one of the minds behind local mission-led social enterprise I am Grounded and its brand-new Coffee Fruit Bar). Barko & Co is a must-try destination for anyone seeking a nourishing take on Australian cafe staples. Coffee is sourced by the Murillo family’s own coffee import business Mr Coffee’s, which sources beans directly from farmers working micro-lots in Colombia and Panama.
