Italians sure know a thing or two about good eating. You see, they invented aperitivo hour – usually a pre-dinner bitter cocktail (hello, Aperol spritz) paired with small bites to stimulate your appetite before the main event. That’s right – eating to encourage more eating. Embracing this concept is Bar OTTO, which sits opposite its older sibling OTTO Brisbane at 480 Queen. The concept of Bar OTTO is simple – after-work or pre-dinner drinks and assaggi (small bites) in true Italian style from 3:00 pm weekdays, helping to inject a bit of fun and deliciousness into your Monday to Friday evenings. Traditional aperitivos of Aperol spritzes and negronis are of course on offer to get that palate stimulated, but you can choose from classic cocktails, beers and an extensive wine list. Keeping in mind that you’re likely to eat dinner afterwards, the menu is concise, with the OTTO kitchen preparing a selection of assaggi such as cheese boards, arancini and oysters, all sitting under the $12 mark.
