Fans of Uncle Don's range of high-end rice bowls will be thrilled to hear that the beloved donburi specialist has expanded. The team recently opened a slick new location over in South Brisbane, where the likes of premium teriyaki-butter-coated wagyu, braised red-miso pork, grilled freshwater eel and char-grilled duck are layered atop pillowy piles of steamed rice. Bite into a steaming dumpling or pork bun at Steamed

Many cultures have dumplings as part of their traditional cuisine, from the momo of the Himalayas (originally made with water buffalo) and hearty bread or potato knödel of Bavaria, to the boiled, steamed or pan-fried jiaozi from Southern China, xiaolongbao soup-filled dumplings from Shanghai or gyoza from Japan. On home soil, the dumpling is no longer a delicacy that is tricky to find.

The Myer Centre gains refreshed food court

Food courts are funny places. Fluorescent lighting beams down from overhead, casting your meal and the skin of the people around you in an odd yellow glow. The aromas of foods from greasy franchises and Chinese banquets mesh and compete to win over your tastebuds. Convenience is key, with the food and service designed to be fast, and your meal delivered in easy-to-carry packaging, ensuring you can eat quickly on the run, in the food court or back at your desk.
