Enamoured by the whimsy of hand-drawn, hand-lettered maps, designer Aymie Spitzer of Brooklyn-based studio Hyperakt created Neighborwoods. Using cedar wood as a base, Aymie combines engraved typography and hand-drawn details to recreate iconic neighbourhoods and their key statistics, with each map featuring its own unique grain. Known as ‘hoods etched in wood’, Barcelona, Berlin, Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago, London, Manhattan, Paris and San Francisco are amongst the locales currently immortalised on cedar, with more to follow.
