ZuroZuro Ramen Bar
If you love nothing more than tucking in to a bowl of steamy ramen, pull up a seat at ZuroZuro Ramen Bar. In what is believed to be a Gold Coast-first, ZuroZuro has brought a Michelin-awarded ramen recipe to the Sunshine State. The former gelato nook on the Gold Coast Highway, nestled in between Jimmy Wah’s and Wahoo’s Fish Taco, would be easy to walk by none the wiser if it wasn’t for those few attention-grabbing words on the sign out the front. It goes without saying that ZuroZuro Ramen Bar boasts some seriously impressive culinary talent, with celebrated chef Jun Furukawa overseeing operations between here and Japan. Jun’s son Eiji Furukawa, who can replicate Jun’s Bib Gourmand award recipe to a tee, helms the Burleigh kitchen alongside tapas chef Tsuyoshi Sato. When it comes to the menu, there are a handful of appetisers including a daily carpaccio, edamame and fried-cauliflower karaage. Hidden towards the back of the menu is the katsu, which is available in six or 12 pieces, and its homemade gyoza, which is also made fresh daily from scratch. For the main affair, there are five different ramen bowls to choose from including the Michelin-awarded ramen, which is based on a fish broth. For those with slightly less fishy tastes, the tonkotsu ramen is a must-try, loaded with homemade noodles and strips of pork loin. Each bowl is filled with noodles that are made fresh, every single morning. The soup, which is delightfully complex and creamy, is made the day before to ensure a richness of flavour that simply cannot be replicated in a hurry. Thirsty? Wash it down with a Suntory 196, a Japanese beer, sake or a nip of Japanese whisky. For something a little more interactive, order the lemon CHU-HI, which is served with half a lemon and a squeezer for you to DIY. Make a booking here.
