That Blue House

When a cafe sign says ‘food. coffee. good vibes’ you know you’re walking into a pretty good space. Add a plate of french toast with grilled bananas, maple syrup, topped with a dollop of honey-cinnamon marscapone that’s as big your head into the mix, and you can pretty much consider your life complete. That Blue House cuts a striking figure along Cooly’s Dutton Street, the little strip that connects the beachfront to the bustling Griffith Street. There’s an all-day breakfast menu that puts a modern spin on classic dishes – and whilst the presentation is impeccable, there is deliberate shift away from being ‘too fancy’. You’ll find eats like the breakfast tostada with bacon, chorizo, avocado smash and a free range egg topped with lime and hot sauce, and a mushroom bruschetta with lemon, garlic and thyme-wilted spinach with herbed-whipped Persian fetta. All your go-to classics are here, like the streaky bacon and egg roll, eggs benny with free range eggs atop an old-school english muffin, and chilli and corn fritters with housemade chipotle mayonnaise – all best washed down with a Bear Bones coffee.
