SPEC

If you’re partial to a cheeky sundowner and spend a significant portion of your day thinking about tacos, you’re going to love SPEC. The striking new eatery is conveniently perched in between Miami and the bustling Nobby’s strip, and is dedicated to bites and brews of both the caffeinated kind and the boozy kind. At its entrance is a coffee window, which conveniently slings Anchorage Coffee’s Hemingway dark-roast blend from 6:00 am, but those who venture through the barn doors are greeted with an impressive marble bar, a dining room dotted with a mix of high and low tables as well as an inviting Chesterfield couch setting. It’s the beck beer garden, however, where we plan to perch ourselves. The menu features a succinct selection of tapas-style bites ranging from grilled-corn cobettes slathered with mayo and a dusting of paprika, crispy lotus root chips, pea and fetta arancini, and tempura oysters. The birria tacos are a stand-out with a mixture of slow-cooked meats smothered with melted cheese cooked on a kebab press. Local brews from Black Hops, Lost Palms, Balter and Stone & Wood fill the taps alongside a seriously stocked bar. The cocktail list is heavy on the tequila (looking at you, Strong S.O.B and The Spec) but there’s also a selection of vodka-based sips as well as a couple of whisky- and rum-filled concoctions.
