Obala

Specialising in seafood fresh from the trawler and rich, bold flavours, Obala is the Gold Coast’s first (and only) truly Adriatic-inspired restaurant. The beachfront venue is the work of mother daughter duo Anna and Christina Sarunic, who borrow from Christina’s dad’s Croatian heritage and Anna’s Italian background to create a diverse menu that caters to simple tastes with crispy, buttery-based pizzas right through to those who are up for a little culinary adventure. If you’re in the latter category, try the Punjena Paprika, which is a traditional Croatian stuffed pepper with pork dressed in passata di pomodoro, you won’t regret it. As you might expect, fare from the sea is a heavy focus with the gigantic platter a real drawcard for seafood lovers – and at just $50, it also happens to be exceptional value! Obala injects an exciting exotic flavour to Kirra and Coolangatta’s dining scene and if your visit just so happens to coincide with a Wednesday, there are some pretty sweet specials including $15 pizzas, platter specials and $5 pints. Oh and did we mention they were licensed from 10:00 am so if you fancy a mimosa with your antipasto breakfast, that’s totally fine, encouraged even! Take a seat and get whisked away to the Adriatic Sea with bold flavours, beautiful mosaic tiles and super chilled vibes.
