nineteen21 restaurant and bar
Given its location in the produce-rich Northern Rivers food bowl, diners can expect plates with provenance at nineteen21 restaurant and bar. Named after the year that the Tweed Heads Bowls Club was founded (May 16, 1921 to be exact), its seasonally changing menu champions sustainability and is shaped by the best produce from Tweed Valley farms and local trawler catches. To start, think lighter dishes like king-prawn bruschetta and the spicy fish-and-prawn sugar-cane skewers, or treat yourself to a serve of fresh, local oysters. The menu features chef’s selections like the salsiccia finocchietto (traditional Italian pork and fennel sausage) plated with garlic mash, greens and apple-cider sauce, a veal-cutlet parmigiana with cherry-tomato sauce and crushed potatoes, and the drool-worthy apple-smoked beef brisket with buttered chat potatoes, Southern-style corn on the cob, apple slaw and smoky barbecue sauce. Seafood lovers can enjoy a fragrant reef-fish and prawn curry, or the teriyaki-glazed salmon with crisp Asian vegetables, noodle salad and a miso-sesame drizzle, while the sky-high seafood platter (everything from oysters to scallops and panko-crumbed whiting) is the perfect date-night feast for two. If you’re easily tempted by sweets, the talented in-house patissiers have you covered with mouth-watering delights like warm chocolate pudding, mixed-berry French crepes, citrus syrup cakes and adults-only affogatos with a nip of liqueur. There’s also an extensive range of wines on offer, with the cellar list featuring around 30 different drops.
