Lumber Punks
Feeling stressed? Got some rage you need to release? Looking for something fun to do that doesn’t involve booze? Book a lane at Queensland’s first (and only) axe throwing venue, Lumber Punks in Miami. The unconventional locale is the brainchild of long-time buddies Sam Hay and Tyson McMillan, who were toying with the idea of opening a bar or a cafe until inspiration struck, literally as they were hurling axes in Tyson’s backyard. Despite what you might be thinking, it’s actually incredibly safe with each of the self-contained lanes designed so there are no wayward axes. Obviously drunk people and pointy objects don’t mix so it’s a dry space and if you’re tempted to sink a couple beforehand, don’t because they won’t let you throw, it’s just common sense really. You can however purchase a non-alcoholic beverage if your hand is feeling a bit empty in between throws. If you’ve never picked up an axe before, don’t be deterred, the staff will show you everything you need to know. Essentially, Lumber Punks is a place to hang out and have fun without booze. It’s kind of refreshing actually. Just remember to wear closed-in shoes because safety never takes a holiday.
