Owners Patty and Ben Glennon have been operating Joy Beans as a wholesale organic fair-trade coffee roaster for more than four years, before recently branching out to establish the brand’s very first retail space. Whilst the new caffeine hub is designed showcase Joy Beans’ own single-origin and specialty blends, Patty and Ben have set out to create a venue that proves that specialty coffee can be done well with ‘organic’ beans. In a nutshell, organic coffee sometimes gets a bit of a bad rap compared to its non-organic counterparts, so we’re pretty delighted to see places like Joy Beans dispel this way of thinking, one brew at a time. Located on Lower West Burleigh Road, the new brew bar is bright, white and refined, with light timber wares and one killer all-white La Marzocco coffee machine pumping out the good stuff. By morning, you can think of Joy Beans as a ‘coffee and toast’ bar, then as the day progresses, the focus swings to coffee and vegan ice-cream – both incredibly delicious combinations.
