Franquette
If it’s been a minute since you spent the day(s) wandering around Tamborine Mountain, let Franquette be your reason to visit. The impressive new bakery specialises in artisan bread, pastries in both sweet and savoury options, gourmet sandwiches and slices. The vanilla flan and the deliciously creamy Basque burnt cheesecake have been the early stand-outs alongside the drool-inducing toasties. The gourmet range utilises top-notch ingredients to ensure that every bite hits in all the right places. One of the best-sellers is Franquette’s take on the classic French onion soup, which has been recreated in sandwich form as well as the ham and cheese croissant that’s made using ham off the bone, a schmear of bechamel sauce and layers of Swiss cheese. If you’re in need of a quality brew for your travels, you’ll find Blackboard Coffee Roasters flowing through the machine. Although Franquette is geared primarily towards a takeaway model, there is Parisian-style seating for 40 along the deck area. There’s also a patch of green space for kids and dogs to roam. Translated to mean ‘without any fuss’, a nod to its rustic, down-to-Earth approach to baking, Franquette is the perfect excuse to head up the mountain this weekend.
