El Camino Byron Bay
El Camino Cantina is a Tex-Mex eatery and bar located in the Mercato on Byron precinct on Byron Bay’s Jonson Street. El Camino is a visual feast of colour-dipped furnishings and artwork, with its hacienda-like fit-out boasting quirky touches like a converted Chevvy trunk, multi-coloured neon lights and bold custom works by artist Ben Brown. As for the food, think smaller bites like jalapeno poppers and buffalo wings with blue-cheese mayo, as well as big-as-your-head nachos, which arrive dripping in cheese sauce and loaded with chilli con carne, black beans and smoked brisket. Taco lovers can have their tortillas stuffed in seven different way, while those with an appetite can indulge in bottomless tortilla chips (and salsa!) then get around the fat burritos that come jammed with dirty rice and your choice of chipotle chicken, brisket with queso, or black bean and vegetables. No visit to El Camino Cantina is complete without experiencing one of its famous 24-oz frozen margaritas.
