Chipstars

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of proper poutine, you’ll appreciate Chipstars that little more than most. The mobile chippery has been rolling the streets of the Gold Coast and surrounds since 2017 and dishes up some seriously hefty stacks of loaded fries in a variety of drool-inducing combinations such as barbecue pulled pork, which has been cooked low and slow for 30-hours, or the crowd-pleasing cheese and bacon. The nosh isn’t unnecessarily complicated, essentially it’s hot chips plus toppings but sometimes it’s the simplest things that bring the most happiness. Chipstars is the handiwork of chef Ron Fulmer and his parter Danielle Robertson, who also happen to own Churros & Chocolate, so they’re no roving-restaurant rookies. The poutine, for example, is made from proper cheese curds, just the way the Canadians do it. You can catch Chipstars cruising various council-run food truck events and festivals around the place, just keep an eye on their Facebook page for upcoming locations. They also do private catering so if you really want to please your guests, give them the gift of happiness by way of loaded fries but if you do, just be sure to swing an invite our way.
