Chanoyu


It was a sad day when Southport’s much-loved cafe Chanoyu closed its doors. Thankfully, it wasn’t goodbye, as the Japanese-infused cafe has opened the doors to a brand-new home along Nerang Street in Nerang. Formerly home to a cupcakery, the new digs suits owner Shin Sugiyama, who was on the hunt for something outside of the main coastal strip. The menu is described as Japanese infused as it includes mainstream breakfast morsels such as eggs Benne and smashed avo with kimchi alongside some more traditionally Japanese dishes such as katsu sandos and omurice (omelette). Whatever you do, be sure to leave room for a matcha-cream puff or something sweet from the cabinet. All of the pastries and sweets are baked in-house. Wash it down with an iced-matcha latte with espresso, or a Seven Miles coffee.
