A relatively recent addition to the Gold Coast’s food scene, the van has already built up a solid following of locals who can’t get enough of the barraca’s beautifully authentic Portuguese food. The menu isn’t overwhelmingly extensive, essentially it’s burgers with spicy chicken, beef, pork or a veggie patty and chips but it’s the incredible burst of flavour that sets them apart. In true Portuguese-style, the food isn’t about fanfare; it’s earthy peasant-style nosh that is cooked with fire and passion. The Piri Piri chicken burger is undoubtedly the most popular item on the menu, and at just $9, the price is pretty sweet too. Just one word of advice, leave room for one of the Portuguese custard tarts.
