Barefoot Fish
If you’ve visited island destinations like Bali, then chances are you’re familiar with Ichthyotherapy (aka ‘fish therapy’) where schools of tiny fish gently nibble away the dry and dead skin from your feet. Barefoot Fish, located on the ground level of Paradise Centre in Surfers Paradise, brings the popular fish-spa concept to the Gold Coast, with tank sessions that run every 30 minutes, 365 days a year.
While the sensation of dozens of small toothless fish cleaning your feet makes you giggle (and giggling is encouraged!) there’s a lot more to Barefoot Fish than meets the eye. Ichthyotherapy, which originated in Turkey more than 500 years ago, is renowned for increasing circulation, activating puncture points, balancing the nervous system, awakening the lymphatic system and a whole heap of other health and wellbeing benefits.
When your session begins at Barefoot Fish, your feet will be screened, washed and sterilised by trained Ichthyotherapy practitioners and assistants before you head into the tank. After 20 relaxing minutes of the tiny fish sucking and gently nibbling away, your feet are again sterilised – and you’ll leave feeling like you’re walking on clouds!
