The Undercurrent’s first collection is the Gold Coast to a tee
We a love a good tee. We love local art. Oh, and in case you hadn’t noticed, we love the Gold Coast. As you can imagine, we were understandably excited when whispers emerged that those three elements were being combined in the first collection from rad new Gold Coast-born label, The Undercurrent. Pals, the tees have dropped and the artist-driven brand has officially launched – it’s time to rep your hood!
Undercurrent is the brainchild of Gold Coast local Carly Snodgrass, who set out to create the brand as a way to flaunt the Gold Coast through the eyes of locals. To share the passion, culture and uniqueness of the city, Carly harnessed the talent of five local artists to create the designs. The result is one helluva debut collection, which not only gives a solid ‘shaka’ to the city’s thriving surf culture, but also reveals elements of the Gold Coast that only a local would know.
The initial drop features five designs by five artists, printed on a series of unisex t-shirts and women’s singlets. There’s the Mermaid Beach tee, designed by renowned local multi-disciplinary artist Claudio Kirac, and the Surfers Paradise tee, which was designed by Sarah Beetson. Local artist and designer Byron Coathup is the mind behind the Coolangatta tee, while Mauritian-born creative Eric Koo created the Burleigh Heads tee. Southern locals will love what illustrator Kiel Tillman has come up with for the Currumbin t-shirt design. Seriously, what a rad reflection of the Gold Coast. Whether you’re a tourist or a local, you need to get these tees on your back. Jump online to check it out.
