Shelter, a book of quintessentially Australian interiors by Kara Rosenlund
Shelter, is a heartfelt photographic hymn to the way Australians have lived and the rambling and crumbling homes author and photographer, Kara Rosenlund found in her journey across the country.
Local Queensland lass, Kara travelled to the forgotten corners and back roads of Australia to document interiors that have been shaped by the way their occupants have lived for decades. The book contains photographic portraits of interiors, landscapes and homeowners so rich in texture that you feel them leap off the page. Her images are touching, and somehow reassuring that life goes on no matter what and we each leave our indelible mark on our surroundings.
Each page of the book gives you a glimpse into a history that feels quintessentially Australian. Kara has documented intriguing homes that have had new life breathed into them by their devoted owners, such as an abandoned cottage saved from decay and a shipping container repurposed into an eco-friendly dwelling. Shelter also documents, in stunning detail, the evocative landscapes in which these dwelling sit.
Kara is a self professed woman of many talents, photographer, stylist, adventurer, storyteller who can sometimes be found selling vintage wares from her renovated 1956 caravan. Shelter is her first book and can be found at bookshops across Australia and online.
