The round-up: essential summer swimsuits

As the Gold Coast swelters through one of the hottest summers on record, the sparkling ocean is calling our names so we’ve checked out the new collections from our favourite labels to cultivate a cracking list of essential swimsuits for your summer adventures.

A nod to a time before life got complicated and the summer brought with it a sense of uninhibited freedom, local label Tacoola has reinvented the classic crochet bikini but added little niceties such as padding and lining. The First Light collection offers a range of flattering styles including the Billie Bralette, the Tallulah Off Shoulder Bandeau and the Penny Halter. Meanwhile, peony swimwear has been making waves for all the right reasons with the Halcyon print, a slightly darker take on the label’s signature floral, and the Dusk Keyhole one-piece. Local label Molly & Polly has once again delivered the goods with a dreamy collection of fun pastel prints including the head-turning Cancun Cacti full-piece and the Getting Cheeky in Waikiki bikini.

Channel your inner 1990s beach babe with the daring The Eastwood Summer Floral one-piece and high-waisted bikini from Byron Bay’s Snorkelbear. Stand out from the crowd in Zulu & Zephyr’s Banzai Bralette Bikini and if you’re feeling a little cheeky, the Azealia Reversible Brazilian boylegs from Annake Swimwear offer just the right amount of coverage. If surf’s up and you’re itching for a paddle, the last thing you need to be worried about is your bikini going AWOL. The Crop Surf Top from Queensland label 2Chillies and the Cypress halter and matching bottoms from Salté’s Go Your Own Wave collection will keep everything in place beautifully. If you appreciate simplicity, 2Chillies’ Cutaway Triangle Bikini and My Bralette Top from Rhythm will be your go-to summer staples.
