PSA: Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is coming to Stan this weekend – lucky you didn’t have any plans

Yep, you heard correctly. Months ahead of its intended streaming release, four-time Oscar-winning black-comedy thriller Parasite will be available on Stan from this Saturday April 11. Better clear our diar … oh wait, we good.

If you happened to miss all of the fuss about Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite, just know that it’s been deemed by critics (and viewers) as one of the most brilliant films of the decade. It made Oscars history this year by winning four Academy Awards – Best Picture, Directing, International Feature Film and Writing (Original Screenplay) – plus became the first non-English-language film to win the award for Best Picture. So, yeah, it’s pretty damn good. It centres around a poor Korean family, who scam their way into working for a very, very wealthy family, giving them access to the rich family’s ultra-luxe home in Seoul. But we’re not going to tell you anything else – we don’t want to ruin it for you. You’ll just have to watch it for the first (or possibly, 89th) time when it drops on Stan this Saturday April 11.

In a statement released today, Stan’s chief content officer Nick Forward shared, “Just two months after its historic Best Picture Oscar win, Stan is pleased to be making this acclaimed masterpiece from South Korean director Bong Joon-ho available early to all Stan subscribers this Easter”. That’s not all Stan is presenting us for April – there’s also Normal People (adapted from Sally Rooney’s popular novel), the second season of the Logie-award-winning Bloom and a brand-new series of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, the same time as the US. Self isolation doesn’t seem sooo bad now, right?
