Stay California-cool this summer in fresh threads from MATE The Label

You know when you find a t-shirt or singlet that you not only love but the quality and fit makes you feel like it could last you a lifetime? Yeah, it’s always a stellar feeling when you add pieces like that to your wardrobe. If the impending arrival of summer has you frantically trying to pull together some new casual essentials that will last you season after season, then take five to get to know the thoughtfully designed collection from MATE The Label.

We’ll be honest, any brand with the name ‘mate’ in it will catch our eye. Though, once you delve a little deeper, you’ll soon realise this brand is far more than a rad name. MATE The Label is a Los Angeles-based company founded in 2013 by Kayti O’Connell Carr. The creative MATE bunch are located in the Arts District of sunny, downtown Los Angeles, which is the powerhouse for the brand’s unique vintage-inspired designs that are all about the California-cool lifestyle.

Produced in small batches each season, MATE The Label’s collection is crafted in pure cotton and soft rayon blends, with some pieces given a unique vintage wash to create a butter-soft feel. Distressed materials, raw edges, exposed seams and classic or oversized fits are some of the signature design features found across the range, which are brought to life by bold graphics and cool statements. The innovative brand focuses heavily on attention to detail and fit (hurrah!), with sustainable and ethical practices implemented throughout the entire design and production process – so much so that MATE has chosen to partner with factories within a five-mile radius from their Arts District headquarters. Cool, eh?

Keen to add some LA vibes to your wardrobe this summer? You can shop online or check out some of the pieces locally at The Freedom State.
