The Weekend Series: avoid the festive frenzy with these last-minute Christmas gift ideas
At this time of publication, there is less than two weeks until Christmas. We don’t want to set off any alarms, but if you haven’t sorted out your festive season gifts yet then time is running out. Don’t panic – we wouldn’t drop this time bomb on you without a way to disarm it before it blows up in your face. To help you out at this stressful time of the year, we’ve put together a handy little list of gifts you can get right now for him, for her, for the little ones, for your furry pals and for small-scale gifting.
Gifts for her
We’re big on scents, and if you know someone else obsessed when it comes to olfactory pleasures, then we suggest investing in something like some Kuumba incense or perhaps an enchanting room spray from Aesop. If you’re thinking of beauty products, LUSH has a killer gift guide full of products from bath melts to lip scrubs, David Jones has got a great skincare set from Dermalogica, while a beauty gift card or bouquet is great for those in need of some pampering. If this special gift recipient favours function or fashion, Kikki K’s glass water bottle is a stylish vessel, Zimmermann’s latest resort swim collection has some great summer staples, and Kookai’s South Hampton bum bag is a lightweight bag for summertime wandering.
Gifts for him
Who said men are easier to buy for? When it comes to the blokes, there are plenty of avenues to investigate. Footwear is a great start, and a comfy pair of adidas slides will go down a treat. If this dude’s summer wardrobe needs and overhaul, then some new items from Uniqlo’s linen range will keep him breezy and beautiful, while an enamel pin from Georgia Perry will make for a great outfit accessory. We haven’t met a single person who could turn down one of Crumpler’s hardy carryalls, and Assembly Label’s selection of specs will help add the finishing touch to any look. If this chap is rather proud of his music taste, a portable Bluetooth speaker will help him kick out the jams.

Gifts for the kids
While waiting until the last minute to buy gifts for the kids is a great way to stop them snooping around the base of the Christmas tree, you don’t want to risk missing out completely. If you’re keen to blow them away, a classic mini Super Nintendo Entertainment System with 20 pre-installed games is a great choice. Should your kid be a Harry Potter fan (let’s face it, which kid isn’t?) then this brilliant Golden Snitch heliball will keep them occupied for ages. We all know one of the best things about having a child is being able to dress them up in adorable outfits, and it doesn’t get much more adorable than this onesie from Seed Heritage. Pottery Barn Kids has a range of toys and accessories, as well as baby-friendly gear for outside play. Finally, Rebel Sport’s range of family games – including baseball, bocce and hula-hoop hopscotch – offer fun for the entire household.

Gifts for the pets
Let’s face it – your pets are part of the family, so why not repay them for the joy they bring to your life daily? A pooch-friendly poncho and sombrero or a knitted shark outfit from Henley & Co will make for some adorable Instagram-worthy picture opportunities, and if that fails then we suggest a chew toy, buddy blanket or ball from My Pet Warehouse. For the cat lovers, Petbarn has a range of flashing balls, wand toys, and tunnels to enjoy.

Gifts for the rest
This final category of stocking stuffers is for the extended family, friends and co-workers that are expecting a gift this year. KeepCups are a brilliant Christmas gift idea, and one that you can get in a snap. Robert Gordon’s clay cups are simply gorgeous, while Biome stocks plenty of glass and plastic varieties (plus a host of great ethical gifts) in a range of colours. A Silk Laundry scrunchie is an understated and handy accessory that’ll earn you some brownie points, while a pool inflatable is certain to be in high demand during a game of Stealing Santa (trust us, we know). Feeling competitive? Mind Games has a stack of board games that will ignite some entertaining rivalry amongst your friendship group. Still stumped on a gift? You can’t go wrong with food or drink. Consider some T2 Tea, a fresh batch of beans from their favourite local coffee roaster, a growler or six-pack from a top-notch craft brewery or perhaps some artisanal sweets.
