The Christmas round-up: gifts for him

We don’t mean to alarm you, but it is now December and thus we have officially entered Christmas territory. To minimise both your traumatic retail experience and your brain scratching over what to buy, we’ve gathered a pretty sweet list that is sure to have something for all of the dudes in your life.

Getting stuff done:
For the man who is a doer, these gifts are bound to keep him occupied. Table tennis (or beer pong, no judgement) is a primo summer activity, so paddle up! Those who like to tinker and fix things will be jazzed on this multitool – it’s like a Swiss army knife but better. Any cyclists out there would benefit greatly from this bike repair kit, and if you’ve got a thrill-seeker on your hands you can buy them a crazy experience like skydiving or hot laps in a V8. Yeehaw!

Boozy:
Aside from buying him a slab and calling it a day, there are some clever little gadgets out there for lovers of brews and liquor. A bar tool set from Pottery Barn is great for budding mixologists, and this goat’s head bottle stopper is a delight for vino guys. Fans of Star Wars and spirits will lose their minds over this Stormtrooper decanter, and a BrewArt droid will give him the tools to make his own dang beer. If he’s into his clear spirits and being ahead of the game, you can pick up a bottle of small-batch gin he may not have tried before.

Hobby club:
Sometimes it’s nice just to spend time doing chill stuff, so here’s some gifts for the hobbyists out there. Junky Comics has an awesome selection of rare and obscure material as well as the classics, and Ironlak’s flagship Brisbane store is the perfect place to stock up on arty materials. Precinct Skate Shop is packed to the brim with unique decks and cool threads from hard-to-find brands. Vinyl is always a good choice – pick up this retro turntable case from JB Hi-Fi and then go to town at Butter Beats, Rare Groove and Atlantis Music selecting his favourite albums on wax. Musos will dig this DIY synth kit, which allows the user to make their own fuzzy tones for their instruments.

Dress me up:
Whether it’s in store or online, these guys have got dressing down to an art – Laced, Apartment, Contra, Violent Green and The Outpost all stock killer street threads that can be hard to find, including Carhartt, Comme des Garcons, BornxRaised and Bounty Hunter. For a snappy accessory you can’t go past Hentley’s range of fine leather goods – grab a phone wallet or passport holder from these guys and it will go the distance. Shoes can be tricky territory, but if you’ve got the size down you can’t go wrong with these four staples – Timberlands, Converse, Vans or Doc Martens. Classics never die! If you’re going to go down the sock road, you may as well do it right – snap up some Happy Socks to keep it rad. Feeling sporty? Let you dude get sweaty in gear from new activewear label SQD Athletica (or head into the new Pac Fair store).

Groomed:
Whether you’re buying for an established fancy pants or hoping to create one, male grooming products are a cool gift that’s still practical. Facial hair is unavoidable for most, so treat him to a snazzy electric razor (his skin will thank you). If he’s got a steady hand and digs the vintage vibe, snap up an Antiga Barbearia straight razor. Uppercut pomades are ideal for keeping hair looking slick, and Men’s Botanics have a killer skincare range. Keep it local and tame your luscious beard with a fancy wooden comb from The Bearded Gents Co. Pick up this Dopp Kit to keep it all together – it’s like a toiletry bag, minus the dag factor.
