The Barberoy reinvents the art of barbering

From a tiny cavern on McLean Street in Coolangatta, the Barberoy is going against the grain and reinventing the classic barbershop image while forging new ground in the area of men’s hairstyles.

If it wasn’t for the old theatre sign and the occasional freshly-groomed gent emerging, you may very well walk past none the wiser. The narrow corridor that is the Barberoy is no more than a few metres wide, with room only for two vintage barber chairs, a tiny stand-alone sink and at the far end, a make-shift bar that houses beers and a couple of bottles of scotch for patrons to enjoy a post-cut beverage. The space however, is ample for owner Clement De Vertevil and his comrade on account of the fact that this is not your standard churn-and-burn style of barber. The Barberoy favour appointments over walk-ins and take their time rather than slotting you into a pre-allocated 10-minute time slot.

The gents here are dedicated to their craft so whether it’s a dapper slicked-back ‘do, a James Dean-esque quiff, a mod cut or even a Forrest Gump flat top you seek, they can accommodate. While you’re there, indulge in a cutthroat razor lather shave and hot towel, you won’t regret it.

If cheap and quick short back and sides is your priority then perhaps this place is not for you. If it is a decent quality cut that exceeds your expectation then by all means, the Barberoy is your place. See our Stumble Guide for opening times
