Alex Longstaff, head designer of Mahiya, says she hopes the collection evokes the freedom of travel to exotic destinations. Sticking to the labels foundation of designing with leather the new collection marries the warm tones of tan and cream combined with a bright hand-woven fabrics and Aztec geometric designs. The collection’s Earth Angel suede jacket and 1970s inspired Daydreamer shorts combine the softest brown leather with strikingly colourful stitch detailing, transforming them into true modern-gypsy wardrobe statement pieces.

Mahiya’s designs draw on inspiration from music, ancient cultures, art, and Alex says travel plays a big part in the design process. Having recently returned from a trip to America, Mexico and Guatemala Alex believes the best way to really capture the true taste of a culture is by travelling and seeing it first hand, feeling the texture and breathing it in.
