The Weekend Series: Six winter cocktails to warm your cockles

Winter can indeed be a cruel mistress and while it can be mighty tempting to spend your entire weekend binge-watching television shows on Netflix, here are six of the best winter cocktails that will lure you from your snuggly confines.

Mulled Wine
Because nothing says winter quite like a glass (who are we kidding, jug) of deliciously warm mulled wine, Not Tonight in Southport will make you feel like you’ve planted yourself in front of a roaring fireplace in a fabulous French chalet. It’s the perfect blend of sweet and spicy and definitely worth braving the cold for.

Mulled Sangria
It’s kind of like mulled wine but just a little bit fancier and we’re willing to go out on a limb and say Bonita Bonita’s signature sangria is pretty much the best thing about winter. Best consumed before, during and after food, just be warned, it has a tendency to sneak up on you after a carafe or two.

Mulled Spice Apple Mule
If anyone knows how to stay warm in the cold it’s the Bavarians so make haste to the Bavarian Bier Cafe in Broadbeach for a mulled spice apple mule. With spiced Jägermeister, warm apple juice and ginger beer, it will certainly hit the sweet spot. If the apple mule isn’t for you, skip the juice and go straight for the spiced Jägermeister shots with a delightful blend of cinnamon and vanilla spices, that’ll warm you right up.

Vardys On Fuego
Black Coffee Lyrics in Surfers Paradise is the perfect place to escape winter’s wrath and cosy up with some sensational cocktails. Our pick is definitely the Vardys On Fuego, which involves a crushed pear half, cinnamon and vanilla sugar, Bacardi fuego, apple liquor and cloudy apple juice all shaken and strained. It tastes just like the apple pies your grandma used to make.

Pumpkin Cocktail
Popular drinking den House of Brews in Surfers Paradise is helping patrons fight off the impending chill with its Forever Autumn selection of cocktails. While they’re all mighty appetising, it’s pretty hard to go past the Pumppakin cocktail with Fireball cinnamon whisky, Licor 43, pumpkin puree, caramel syrup, milk and cream, it’s essentially an Irished-up version of a pumpkin latte.

Spiced Strudel Cocktail
The liquid version of a big warm hug, this hot cocktail from Finders Keepers in Burleigh Heads contains the perfect blend of spices, spirits and liqueurs to replicate that unforgettable spiced strudel flavour. It will leave you with all of the happy feels.
