Pavement Whispers: What a Catch set to bring bubbles and bug rolls to Broadbeach

Fact – shopping is infinitely more fun after a glass (or two) of bubbles and a good feed. If you concur, get excited because we’ve heard whispers of a new upmarket fish and chippery arriving at The Patio at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, just in time for all of your Christmas shopping expeditions. The new venue will be called What a Catch and it will be the latest culinary offering from award-winning chef Daniel Ridgeway, who also owns Little Truffle Dining Room & Bar in Mermaid Beach, BiN72 Coolangatta and BiN232 also at Pacific Fair. Here’s what we know so far.

Do you remember when shopping centre dining was limited to an array of fast-food outlets? Thankfully, things have changed and Pacific Fair is set to welcome another quality dining institution to its mix when What a Catch opens in November. The venue will take the place of Wild Fish & Chips and will offer an upmarket menu of prawn-and-bug milk buns, fresh fish sourced daily, oysters and sides including pickled onions and house-made sauces. It will be licensed too, so you can take a break from shopping for a cheeky bug roll and bubbles (or beer).

The name What a Catch is a throwback to Daniel’s childhood – his parents used to own a fish and chip shop, so you could say it’s in his blood. The seafood will be sourced fresh daily and once it’s gone, it’s gone, as nothing will be frozen. What a Catch will feature table service with takeaway options available. We’ll bring you all of the delicious details when it opens so watch this space, seafood lovers.
