Enjoy great food and company at Vintage Velvet
Vintage Velvet, lodged in the old Swingin’ Safari house on the corner of Surfers Paradise Boulevard and Thornton Street, opened late last year and is undoubtedly one of the Gold Coast’s most unique settings for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
If walls could talk, the ones at Vintage Velvet would have one heck of a tale to tell. One that would inevitably include stories of first encounters, romances, rendezvous, lover’s quarrels and countless celebrations. Built prior to World War II, the old house has witnessed some changes during its life, more recently changing from Swingin’ Safari to Vintage Velvet. For those who may have mourned the loss of its predecessor, Vintage Velvet is by no means a consolation prize. The new offering possesses the same casual vibes with an added air of sophistication to reflect the owner David Robinson’s new vision.
The menu, created by executive chef Jerome Caruana, reflects the establishment’s philosophy of simple food done well, to perfection. Combining creative presentation with masterful flavour combinations, the food options are as vast as the cocktail list. For the peckish, there’s a range of tapas plates including katsu chicken burger that is accompanied by house cut rustic fries, salt and pepper squid and market fresh fish that is sourced daily or for the more substantial hungers, indulge in one of the impressive boards and sharing plates. Good luck deciding though, each one sounds as amazing as the last. For the extra special occasion, Vintage Velvet can also put on a high tea, however you need to pre-order this in advance.
If a tipple is on the agenda, you’re in good hands having poached their barman from Sydney especially for the gig. The cocktails are made with fresh fruit with a side of showmanship. That’s the thing about Vintage Velvet, everything is about the experience. The food, atmosphere and service are all intended to leave a lasting impression.

For a casual afternoon beverage, the terrace is the perfect place.
