The round-up: the Gold Coast’s top fries

In days past, fries (or hot chips) were merely viewed as a side to a burger. But now, thanks in part to the American food wave that has engulfed the city’s nosheries, fries have become a feast unto themselves. Loaded with mountains of melted happiness topped with deliciousness, we’ve round up some of the Gold Coast’s top fries to pig out on.

Cheesy chips
If you believe that cheese should be its own food group, Easy Street Diner’s insanely addictive skinny fries that are drowning in gooey goodness are definitely up your alley. Up the ante and add pork belly, bacon and special sauce, or don’t, they’re great either way. Miami’s The Good Wolf offers its own take on the Canadian staple poutine with chips, creamy mushroom sauce baked with three types of cheese alongside the epic Buffalo fries; chips tossed in parmesan with blue cheese sauce. Meanwhile, Ze Pickle in Burleigh Heads has earned legions of fans for its fries that are doused in house-made IPA beer cheese sauce.

Fancy fries
Mermaid Beach’s Bam Bam Bakehouse is taking us back to our childhood with its shaker fries but adds a grown up element with its parmesan, chive and truffle salt seasoning. Also on offer is nori, sweet garlic, sesame seed and soy flakes or bacon bits, thyme and chicken salt. House of Brews offers six glorious varieties ranging from standard cheesy fries to the all-out Tijuana street fries that are loaded with Mexican shredded beef, guacamole, melted cheese, salsa and sour cream and its perfectly over-the-top parmesan truffle fries. Tossed with truffle oil, garlic and fresh parmesan, it’s fair to say these bad boys aren’t your regular side of fries. Brooklyn Depot has also taken things to the extremes with its ‘frips’ and dares diners to ‘Brooklynise’ their fries by adding delicious toppings like bacon and cheese.

Mighty mounds
If it’s decadence you desire, look no further than Lester & Earl’s hefty pulled pork triple cheese fries, it’s a meal in itself! If you fancy a little fire in your belly, munch on a serve of Stupid Fries, fat chips piled high with house-made chilli, fried onions, bacon and cheese sauce or head to Tribeca NYC for a plate of fully-loaded fries that are topped with your choice of pulled pork or pulled beef, cheese and smokey chipotle sauce. Last but in no way least, California Tacos’s signature California Fries are a sight to behold, ‘gram and devour. Mountains of shoe-sting fries topped with melted cheese, home-style pinto beans, jalapeno aioli, guacamole and salsa fresca, it’s heaven on a plate.
